About B’nai B’rith Ramblers
B’nai B’rith Ramblers was founded in 1995 and by 2020 we have held over 600 bush-walks. These days, B’nai B’rith Ramblers runs a mix of hard and medium walks with 2 or 3 walks every month catering to varying interests, also holding 2 or 3 bush-walking weekends. B’nai B’rith Ramblers has in the past organised trips away to far-flung places including New Zealand. It has organised Cup Day weekends away in conjunction with B’nai B’rith Unit Mitzvah.
And if that’s not enough, the B’nai B’rith Ramblers have been environmentally active, leading Clean-Up-Australia days and working on improving walking tracks. Ramblers is a member of Bush Walking Victoria
B’nai B’rith Ramblers has over 60 members, many of whom are members of B’nai B’rith. However it caters for people who are not members of B’nai B’rith. Some walkers join B’nai B’rith as a result of meeting B’nai B’rith members and hearing about the good work that B’nai B’rith does. See www.bnaibrith.org.au
Ramblers started out under the name School of Hard Walks and held its first official walk on Sunday 2 July 1995. The first convenor of SOHW was George. Unit Mitzvah had previously run a number of bush-walks under various names including “Follow the Fleischers”.
SOHW was formed after George had organised a number of hard day-walks in the previous couple of years for friends, some of whom were members of Unit Mitzvah. Indeed, it was Aviva (another B’nai B’rith Unit Mitzvah member) who first asked George to lead some hard walks, and history has it that she and the rest of the group were severely tested but very happy as they toiled up hill and down dale in heat and dust over many long kilometres of track.
The next convener of B’nai B’rith Ramblers was Michael, who worked very hard for 10 years building a committee of walk leaders who also took on various roles of responsibility. Michael also implemented our procedures and moulded the club into what it is today.
In our current committee, Vardit is the co-ordinator and newsletter editor with assistance from Irena, Judy is the BBVIC Preview Editor, Irena is the Treasurer, Eitan is the Secretary and Evelyn our Publicity Officer. The committee also includes all of our walk leaders.
